Lecture "A Supreme Court Justices view on the Netherlands" by Antonin Scalia, Supreme Court Justice. Moderated by Arthur Doctors van Leeuwen.
9 Sep. 2004, 8 p.m., Aula van de Universiteit Amsterdam.
Known for his powerful intellect and unequivocal opinions, Antonin Scalia has served 18 years on the U.S. Supreme Court. Considered one of the Court's most conservative justices, he is regarded by George W. Bush as a model for future judicial appointments, leading to speculation that he could one day occupy the Chief Justice's chair.
Not surprisingly, Scalia has attracted his share of admirers and critics alike. His writings for the Court reflect a strong personal style and obvious passion, making him a colorful and controversial character on the American legal scene.
Arthur Docters van Leeuwen, former Attorney General of the Netherlands, will present and moderate the evening.
Organized in cooperation with the University of Amsterdam Law Faculty and Meijers Institute of Leiden at the Uva Aula.
