Suspected Soldier Released

News | 07 January 2004

A Dutch marine who had been arrested last week on charges of killing an Iraqi civilian, was released yesterday, when a court ruled that there was not sufficient evidence to hold him in custody any longer.

The public prosecutor leading the investigation into the shooting incident in Iraq, implicating Dutch military stationed in the area, has decided not to appeal the court's decision. Yet, a spokesperson of the prosecutor's office stated that the soldier "is still considered a suspect" in the case.
